Design Method

SHOPIFY Event Assets and Brochure Design, London UK, Sydney Australia

Working for large, recognised, well know brands can often be a bit of a anti climax for design agencies. Bound by strict rule books of ‘Don’t’ (Brand guidelines) there is sometimes not a huge amount of scope for creatitity

We have always been really lucky at Pelling Design where that has not necessarily been the case, but with friends in the industry I know its a very regular occurrence

Well our luck has continued with Shopify – a brand I have admired from afar for sometime, so it was such a thrill when one of my contacts (recommended  and retention again!!!!) ended up as marketing manager and gave us the call

We needed to act swiftly and create some urgent social assets to support a live webinar event in a matter of days. My design team quickly got their heads around the brand guidelines and went about creating a vibrant, colourful set of visuals.

The brand elements we had a to work with were great, allowing to to be expansive in our design approach

Once the initial rush had subsided the next task was to create 3 brochures to support the individual subjects of the online event: Shopify Capital, Shopify Pay Instalments and Shopify Payments.

We attributed each with its own brand colour to differentiate the offering and with simple diagram and illustration use, strong typographic layouts, really bought the subjects to life

As you can see, its a vibrant brand so we were careful to not overly embellish the work so as to distract from the contents.

Knowing when there is a need to elevate a piece of design work is key to working with big brands. There is no need to over embellish and its actually quite the art form to hold back.

Working inside a set of provided ‘boxes’ (brand guidelines) does not mean you cannot be creative. It is key to strike a balance between contents and aesthetics and its something we pride ourselves on at Pelling Design
