Design Method
ABBOTT HEALTHCARE Interactive Presentation Deck. London, Surrey
I have lost count of the amount of times I have written about making otherwise dull subjects / statistics / information look beautiful… but I make no apologies because it is my favourite thing about being a designer
I still see it as a unique design challenge and has been (and will always be) my go-to-test for any prospective or incoming designer
If you can make a bar chart, or a set of numbers look great, then you are essentially making something out of nothing and are ‘A-ok’ in my book.
When working for a client in the healthcare sector – in this case Abbott – then there are inevitably a huge amount of clinicals that go along with validating any new or existing product innovation.
Imagine slide after slide after slide of mundane, grey, dull bar charts – it happens believe me!
To stop this aesthetic tragedy from becoming a regular occurrence, Abbott continuously work with the design teal at Pelling to bring their statistics, charts and tables to life!
Abbott have vast photo library to draw upon which helps break up the repetitiveness of viewing information. It should not be underestimated the impact this can have in taking information in. it breaks it all up into sizeable chunks and stops a otherwise overawing presentation from being monotonous and hard to follow.
Colour usage is hugely important too. The right use can obviously make. Set of charts look more pleasing to the eye, but they can help differentiate the information and draw out key aspects too.
The way the charts are drawn helps too – the simpler the better. There is often a multitude of fonts, line thicknesses and colours used when pulling information together by a number of different parties but is amazing what a little design consistency can do.
In this instance, by carrying out the above and integrating these aspects into our design process, they all added up and completely overhauled a boring presentation into a design master piece!
If you have some dull information you want bought to life, just give us a shout – It will be another welcome design challenge.
